Event: ME215: Performing Machinery & Equipment Valuations for Financial Reporting Purposes

The objective of this course is to introduce the MTS appraiser to the standards that govern valuations for financial reporting purposes; how they apply to MTS appraisers; and how these valuations are the same and differ from other valuations performed by experienced MTS appraisers. Some of the subjects which will be covered include: a brief outline of the standards; Fair Value definition and what it means for the MTS appraiser; makeup of the valuation team; how to deal with various issues regarding fixed asset records; a review of various Cost and Market Approach techniques and how to utilize them in these valuations; the review process and what to expect during a review; how to handle impairment valuations; and a “hands on” development of a simple computerized valuation model. This is an advanced course that assumes students are familiar with basic appraisal techniques. Students are required to bring a calculator (capable of calculating exponents) and a laptop which will be utilized for some of the examples. This is an advanced course and will require the use of a calculator capable of using exponents and a laptop which will be used for some of the examples. As such, please make sure to bring both a calculator and a laptop including excel.

Event: ME214: Identification & Appraisal of Mining & Mineral Processing Equipment

The objective of the course is to address the valuation of mining and processing equipment from start to finish. The course will prepare you for what to expect, and give you a level of confidence when you inspect a mining/milling operation. You will learn about different types of mines and processes, i.e., extraction techniques methods for underground and above ground mines. You will learn about hard rock mineral processing and coal preparation equipment. The course will address what equipment to expect on each type of property. It will address key factors to identify and describe the equipment, and details important in valuing the equipment. You will also learn the terms pertinent to this basic industry and their importance to value decisions. ME214 includes the COST APPROACH, MARKET APPROACH and INCOME APPROACH. Most important, the course concentrates on market dynamics affecting the supply, demand and swings in the values of equipment. This is an advanced course that assumes students are familiar with report writing and appraisal techniques.
